Constantinople - Sept 1877 - Ambulance Service of the British National Aid Society

This scrap of an envelope survived the insurrections in Turkey during the 1870's and is historically quite important. The 2&1/2d rosy-mauve stamp is damaged and the London cancellation very heavy as was usual at the time. However, the Constantinople date stamp on the reverse is clear enough to confirm the date of receipt at the British Post Office in Constantinople. Mr. Young, the recipent was obviously in charge of the National Aid Society at the British Embassy.

Altogether a Stunning Piece of History despite the damage.
